What is the Eleven Plus exam?

Though it was compulsory for all students until 1976, the Eleven Plus exam is currently only used by grammar schools and independent selective schools to identify academic ability.  There are over 150 grammar schools in England, all of which use selective exams to pick out the very best of students leaving primary school.  Though every school has a slightly varied examination procedure, they all test four common areas:

  • Verbal reasoning

  • Non-verbal reasoning

  • Maths

  • English

"I am very pleased with my tutor.  He provided me with many useful resources to help my understanding; such as exam questions, past papers and worksheets on the different required practicals.  He simplified things and explained concepts clearly.  I achieved Grade 9s in Physics and Biology, and grade 8 in Chemistry in my GCSEs.  I would happily recommend him to anyone looking for help with Science."
